(YFor those of you who read my previous post, you know I have been struggling. I've been feeling empty and sad and overwhelmed. While I was feeling all of those things plus some I knew that I should be happy. God has answered so many of our prayers and I have much to be grateful for. But all I could see were the lacking parts of my life. Honestly, I think writing it down and putting it out there is what made the change. You should try it!
Today I am feeling okay. I can smile. I can laugh. I can offer praise. What changed you ask? I "stumbled" upon a verse in Psalms. I put stumbled in quotation marks, you see, because it wasn't by accident. Through all of this sad season I was going through I knew God was trying to teach me something but I didn't know what. I had forgotten how to praise Him. Here's the verse...
"Oh that men would praise the LORD for his goodness, and for his wonderful works to the children of men!" Psalm 107:31
I love that it ends in an exclamation point. In my Facebook posts you will find an excessive use of exclamation points but rarely do you see one in God's Word. (You'll find an identical exclamation in verses 8 and 15 of the same chapter!) The psalmist was probably as frustrated with those around him as I have been with myself. If only we would praise the Lord for His goodness.. How happy we would be! And there it was. The turning point.
I remember after I had our daughter (who just turned 7... slow down, little one!), I was struggling with the vicious postpartum hormone mess, and once again God gave me a verse...
"Giving thanks always for all things unto God and the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ;" Ephesians 5:20
Read that... ALWAYS for ALL things. I started thanking the Lord for just 2 hours of sleep because it was 2 more than I had before. I started thanking Him for allowing my little one to be content long enough for me to get the dishes washed. I started finding joy in the little things and that was my turning point.
He had to teach me again. And I am so, so glad that He did. No matter how many times I forget and fail Him, He always draws me back. Isn't He amazing??
SOO here's what I'm going to do and I would love for you to join me! Earlier this year when a friend of mine was going through a rough season, she would post on Facebook with the hashtag #findthegood. I don't think I ever told her but it was good for me and I never forgot it. I am now going to do the same thing! It doesn't matter how rocky my Lyme day is or how grumpy my little people are, there is ALWAYS something to be thankful for and I'm going to find it every day!
Here it to a #findthegood post on Facebook each day and claiming even more wonderful Scripture that still pertains to us 2,000 years later!
Much love,
Andrea
